Bhubaneswar Declares No-Drone Zones for PM Modi’s Visit: Security Measures in Place | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police have declared no-drone fly zones across specific areas of Bhubaneswar during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state for attending the three-day DGP/IGP conference, beginning from Friday.
The order, which was issued on Wednesday evening by the police commissioner S Devdatta Singh, will come into effect from Friday and will remain in force till Sunday. The designated no-drone fly zones include the Biju Patnaik International Airport area, Raj Bhawan area, Lok Seva Bhawan and IPS mess. Police sources indicated that if Modi visits the BJP party office near Ram Mandir, that vicinity would also be included in the restricted zone.
“The use of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft systems (UAVs and UAS) will be banned on the routes used by the PM, his place of stay and his meeting venues. Such devices may pose a threat to the safety of the public and dignitaries,” a senior police officer said.
A multi-layered security cordon formed by the Special Protection Group, armed paramilitary forces and the Odisha police will remain in place in and around the places where Modi stays.
“We will make comprehensive security arrangements by deploying Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, quick reaction teams and thorough anti-sabotage checks. Patrolling and blocking have been intensified in different areas. CCTV surveillance and human intelligence teams have been deployed across the city,” police commissioner Singh said.
He added that the security measures are taken to ensure the safety and security of VVIPs and dignitaries to prevent any untoward incidents. The traffic police will impose restrictions and diversions on certain roads during the movement of VVIPs.
DGP Y B Khurania held a review meeting with other senior police officers here on Wednesday for the smooth conduct of the DGP/IGP conference that is being held in Odisha for the first time. Besides Modi, home minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and DGPs of all states, will attend the conference.
