Bhojpur gang-rape and murder: Two accused still absconding | Patna News – Times of India

Ara: Eight days after a 20-year-old Bihar police constable aspirant was gang-raped and murdered allegedly by her three acquaintances in a Bhojpur village, police are yet to arrest two of the accused men, even as the main perpetrator was arrested on May 27. The BA Part-II student was gang-raped and murdered on May 22 in a village library, where the accused youths — also police constable aspirants — were regular visitors.Bhojpur superintendent of police (SP) Raj said the family members didn’t lodge the FIR immediately but did so after three days. “However, after the police came to know about the incident from the villagers on May 23, they started a suo moto investigation, based on its inputs, the library’s CCTV camera footage and samples collected by the FSL and DIU teams. The main accused was arrested on May 27. Raids are going on to nab the other two accused. The other two accused will soon be arrested. After filing a charge sheet against them, we will appeal for a speedy trial to ensure strictest punishment,” said the Bhojpur SP.According to the FIR, lodged by the brother of the victim, he was informed by a villager about 3.30pm on May 22 that his sister was lying unconscious in the village library. “When I rushed there, my sister was writhing in pain, lying near the door of a library room. Before losing her consciousness, she told me that she had been raped. I tried to take her to a local private practitioner, but she died on way. Unaware of the provisions of the law, we cremated her without informing the police,” read the FIR. The family has alleged that she was either given some drugs or poison to kill her after committing the rape. However the police are still investigating this aspect of the case. The local police outpost station house officer, Sarvesh Kumar, said on Friday that as per preliminary investigation, the accused youths were well acquainted with the victim. “The examination of call detail records reveals several chats between the victim and accused persons. On the day of the incident, the women went to the library after the accused called her on some pretext. Besides, himself preparing for the constable exam, the arrested accused was also a physical trainer for the police aspirants,” said the SHO.Meanwhile, the main opposition party RJD has lashed out on social media, stating, “In Bhojpur, a girl was gang-raped and murdered after administering her drugs in a library, but the state govt is not ashamed.”
