Bharat Raksha Manch demands NRC in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha unit of the Bharat Raksha Manch (BRM), a nationalist Hindutva organisation, here on Friday demanded the holding of a National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise in Odisha and a separate Act against illegal immigration.
“To save the country from a probable civil war and to protect our Constitution, it is of utmost necessity that these illegal immigrants be detected, their names be deleted from all national databases, and be deported from India. It can be possible with the implementation of NRC throughout the nation,” said BRM state president Manoj Acharya.
He said Odisha is a victim of this illegal immigration from Bangladesh. “We are shaken due to recent inhuman violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. In view of this, we have decided to gather near the Odisha legislative assembly here on August 23 seeking four major demands,” he added.
On these demands, BRM secretary Puranjan Padhi said they urge the Centre to pass a new separate Act against illegal immigration, implementation of a uniform civil code and NRC in Odisha, and enactment of a strict law against forced conversions in the state.
Padhi said they also want the deportation of non-Hindu Bangladeshi people back to their own country. “Our govt should stop Rohingya infiltration and deport the illegal immigrants to their native countries. We cannot want chaos and civil war in our country,” he added.
He said they will impose pressure on the govt through a massive dharna near the state assembly on August 23 to act fast on illegal immigration. “I appeal to the public that they should hand over the suspected people to local police instead of attacking or harassing them. All Bangla-speaking people are not illegal immigrants, that’s why people should refrain from harassing them,” he added.
The outfit is creating awareness among people about the problems associated with the influx of illegal immigrants to India. “We should protest this and tell the Centre to take appropriate decisions to stop this menace,” he added.
