Berhampur Municipal Corporation: Berhampur Municipal Corporation to Evaluate Public Toilet Conditions Amid Sanitation Concerns | Bhubaneswar News

BeMC panel to assess condition of public toilets

Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has decided to form a committee to assess the condition of public and community toilets in silk city, currently maintained by women self-help groups and a private agency.
“As per the report of the committee, the civic body would take action against the agency entrusted with their maintenance,” said BeMC mayor Sanghamitra Dalei at the corporation’s meeting on Friday evening.
The mayor made the announcement after several councillors expressed concern over the poor sanitation facilities at public toilets in the city..
Prasant Patnaik, one of the corporators, raised the condition of the public and community toilets in the city. He described how commuters, especially women, are facing much difficulty as there are no public toilets in crowded areas like Old Bus stand and Kamapalli Bada Bazaar.
“A toilet at the Old Bus stand area was demolished by Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) for the construction of a multi-purpose parking facility without making any alternative arrangement, two years ago,” said Surendra Moharana. He appealed to the authorities to curb the mosquito menace by regular fogging and cleaning of the drains.
Silk city has 61 public and community toilets, of which 10 are in a dilapidated state and unusable, corporators said.
