Berhampur mayor demands action against corporators | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: A day after unruly scenes were witnessed in the corporation meeting of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), when a group of corporators staged a dharna near the main gate of the corporation office on Wednesday, another group of corporators led by mayor Sanghamitra Dalei met Ganjam collector on Thursday. They demanded action against corporators, who stalled the meeting.
They also met SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M, urging him to provide a personal security officer (PSO) for the mayor, which was withdrawn after BJP formed the govt.
Unruly scene was witnessed in the meeting when a group of corporators staged protests over several issues. Bhabani Prasad Mishra, commissioner of BeMC, in a letter to the mayor on Wednesday, alleged that some corporators, especially the corporator of ward no. 26, violated the decency of the meeting by resorting to unruly behaviour and abuse against him. “This has demoralised morale of the staff and officers to work in such an environment with constant threat,” he said.
“We have urged the collector to take appropriate action against the corporator of ward no. 26 (Dhiresh Sabat),” said a corporator, who met collector (Ganjam) Dibya Jyoti Parida at Chhatrapur.
Contacted, Sabat said as a corporator, he raised certain questions about development of the city, particularly his area. Without answering his questions, the commissioner left the meeting. “I have never disrespected or abused the commissioner,” he said, who was elected as an Independent.
