Bengaluru suitcase murder: Probe reveals teenager was killed for refusing physical relationship | Bengaluru News

Bengaluru: The murder of a 17-year-old girl, whose body was discovered stuffed into a suitcase and dumped near railway tracks at Chandapura, has left investigators shocked. According to police officials, the teenager had been lured from her home in Bihar with a false promise of marriage, only to be killed for refusing to engage in a physical relationship. The suitcase containing her body was discovered on May 21 near a railway bridge close to Anekal. Suryanagar police, who launched an investigation, nabbed eight suspects — including a minor — from a hideout in Bihar. The main accused, Ashiq Kumar, a resident of Kachanayakanahalli and a factory worker, had brought the girl to Bengaluru on May 18. Already married with two children, he told her that he would divorce his wife and marry her. He even promised to set up a separate home for them, convincing the girl to travel with him.The investigators said Kumar took the girl to a house belonging to his relative, Mukesh Kumar, and attempted to force her into a physical relationship. When she resisted, Kumar assaulted her with a beer bottle and then strangled her to death.Kumar then tried to cover up the incident as a suicide. He called Mukesh and others, claiming that the girl had hanged herself and that he had gained entry into the house by breaking the window on seeing her. The house owner who lived in the same building heard the noise and became suspicious. He took photographs of all the eight who arrived at the house. The same photographs turned crucial during the police investigation. The accused then stuffed the victim’s body into a suitcase, hired a cab, and disposed of it near the railway bridge, the investigators said. While Kumar has been charged with murder, the others face charges of being accomplices and attempting to destroy evidence. The breakthrough in the case came when a photo of the deceased went viral on social media. Her parents, who saw the image, approached local police in Bihar. All eight suspects were soon arrested. Police officials described the crime as a horrific case of betrayal and violence, made worse by the deliberate attempts to mislead investigators.
