Bengaluru suitcase murder: Accused techie Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar sent to judicial custody for killing wife
Rakesh claimed he killed his wife in self-defense after she attacked him. Police suspect he tried to transport her alive before abandoning the plan and fleeing to Pune.

BENGALURU: The accused in a chilling murder case, where the husband stabbed his wife to death and stuffed her body in a trolley suitcase, was brought to Bengaluru from Maharashtra on Saturday night.
He was produced before the magistrate and was remanded to 14-day judicial custody (JC).
A senior officer told TOI that the accused, 36-year-old Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, was admitted to a hospital in Shirwal, Maharashtra, as he consumed a small quantity of phenyl and cockroach killer on the evening of March 27.
He killed his 32-year-old wife, Gouri Anil Sambrekar, on the night of March 26 at their rented house in Doddakammanahalli near Hulimavu.
He was discharged from the hospital on Saturday afternoon as he was completely fit, according to the doctors. The team of police from Hulimavu police station, who camped in the hospital, detained Rakesh, produced him in the local court, and brought him to the city under a transit warrant.
Soon after obtaining the transit warrant, the police took a flight from Pune and reached Bengaluru by 8:30 pm. He was produced before the magistrate in National Games Village (NGV), Koramangala, and was remanded to JC. Rakesh is lodged in Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara.
The police are going to approach the open court on Tuesday seeking his police custody. The police will be busy with the Ramzan festival security arrangements. Remanding him to JC was, in a way, good for the investigating team as they can take him into custody after two days and interrogate him thoroughly, a senior officer said.
When we spoke to Rakesh for some time after he landed in Bengaluru, he claimed that he killed his wife as she was dominating and often fought with him. He repeated the same story, saying that it was his wife who first tried to attack him with the knife, so he took the same knife and stabbed her.
Cops suspect that he stuffed his wife in the suitcase even as she was alive and tried to carry the suitcase in his car. However, he dropped the plan as the handle of the suitcase broke. He locked the house door and drove towards Pune in his car.
According to our team, which was in Shirwal hospital, Rakesh’s father, Rajendra Khedekar, reached the hospital before our team, and both of them appeared to have discussed about giving the statement before the police.
Rajendra was the first person to know about Gouri’s murder, as Rakesh called him and explained everything in detail. Rakesh also informed him that he was going to drink poison and end his life. We strongly suspect that Rakesh is hiding the real story. A thorough interrogation will reveal the exact motive, a senior officer said.
