Bengaluru: A security guard was nabbed for killing his wife and attempting to pass it off as a suicide by hanging her body in Tavarekere, BTM Layout I Stage, Thursday.
The deceased is Shilpa, a staff nurse at a private hospital. The suspect, her husband Chikka Mutturaju, is in his 40s and works in a hospital in Koramangala. Shilpa and Mutturaju were married for 12 years, and the couple had an 11-year-old daughter. Police said Mutturaju and Shilpa were from Kanakapura in Ramanagara district.
Mutturaju started suspecting his wife’s fidelity and the couple fought frequently over the issue. Their only daughter lives with her grandmother. On Thursday, they fought over the same issue again. Mutturaju slapped her and she collapsed, bleeding from her nose. He allegedly strangled her to death and hung her from the roof with her sari.
He called her mother and informed her that she had hanged herself. When Shilpa’s mother reached their house around 5pm, Mutturaju wasn’t in the house. Police, who got information from the house owner, rushed to the spot and suspected it was a murder. The autopsy confirmed it.
A police team found Mutturaju at work. He was under the influence of alcohol and allegedly confessed to the crime.
