Bengaluru horror: Cops scan CCTV cams as molester still remains at large

BENGALURU: Suddaguntepalya police are yet to achieve a breakthrough in their hunt for a molester who harassed a woman walking with her friend in the early hours of April 3. The women were returning to their paying guest accommodation after having tea at a shop.

According to police, the woman and her friend left the PG at 12.50am to go to a stall on Suddaguntepalya Main Road. The man was present near the shop. When they left the shop at 1.52am, he followed them. When they reached I Cross, Bharathi Layout, half a kilometre away from a private university, he sexually harassed one of the women.
The incident came to light after a businessman shared a CCTV grab of the assault online Sunday. The woman did not file a complaint. She and her friend were in the city to get admission to a private college for their master’s degree. Police commissioner B Dayananda said: “Our team has analysed hundreds of CCTV cameras. Day and night beat patrolling is being done regularly. The efficiency of the night patrolling is being analysed using technology. We will take further measures to intensify patrolling.” Police took complaint from Lokesh Gowda, who stays in the area.
‘CCTV footage surfaced’
City police have registered a suo motu case after CCTV footage surfaced on social media showing a man molesting a woman in Bharati Layout, Suddaguntepalya, in the early hours of April 3.
The video, recorded around 1:52 am, captures a man approaching two women walking down a narrow lane. He is seen forcibly pushing one of them against a wall before fleeing the scene.
“The video clearly shows the man molesting one of the women and running away. We have booked a case of stalking and sexual harassment under the relevant sections, and efforts are on to trace the victim so that we can file a formal complaint,” said an investigating officer.
(The victim’s identity has been withheld in accordance with Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault.)
