Bengal student found dead near construction site | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The body of a BTech student from KIIT deemed to be university was found in a pool of blood outside a seven-storey under-construction building in the city’s Mancheswar area on Monday evening. The student was identified as Arnab Mukherjee (21), a resident of Bankura district in West Bengal.
Police indicated that Mukherjee fell from the building but have not determined if it was accidental or intentional. “As of now, no foul play has been detected or reported. The postmortem report and investigation will clarify further details. It has been confirmed that Arnab was a student of KIIT. His family has been informed,” deputy commissioner of police Jagmohan Meena said.
Police sources said construction activities at the site had stopped some 18 months back. The assigned security guard and caretaker claimed no knowledge of the incident.
“The security guard claimed he did not notice the victim or anyone else entering the under-construction building. CCTV footage corroborated the security guard’s statement. We suspect that the victim might have entered the building by scaling its rear boundary wall. We are trying to find out his motive for visiting the under-construction building and whether he was alone or not,” assistant commissioner of police (Zone-V) Biswaranjan Senapati said.
A KIIT spokesperson said police are investigating the case. “The incident occurred outside our campus. We are waiting for the police report,” the spokesperson said.
