BDA to rope in agency to beautify, illuminate roads & flyovers for events | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: To complement the festive atmosphere during different events, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has decided to hire an independent agency to beautify and illuminate various road stretches and flyovers in the city. The BDA has issued a request for proposal (RFP) recently, inviting agencies with expertise in the relevant field to take up the task of illuminating and decorating the city during events to enhance its visual appeal and present it at its best.“Installation of aesthetic and decorative lighting on priority streets is pivotal in enhancing the city’s visual appeal during different events. We decided to hire an agency for a three-year period, which will take up the job as and when required,” BDA vice-chairman N Thirumala Naik said.In the proposal, the BDA said this initiative not only highlights Bhubaneswar’s commitment to fostering a memorable experience for delegates and visitors but also strengthens its image as a modern, culturally rich urban hub.“Thoughtfully designed lighting will illuminate key urban spaces, ensuring safety, improving navigation and accentuating the city’s architectural and natural beauty, aligning with the grandeur of different local and national events,” the proposal read. The authority, taking experience from previous events, decided to implement the tried and tested “look and feel” concept of colour scheme for the lighting project, which aligns with the theme of a particular event at the particular time. The agency selected for the project will design, supply and install the illumination system and also ensure its maintenance during the installation period. It could use its own lighting equipment or could also rent it as per the requirement of BDA, officials said.As per the requirement specified by BDA, the illumination would include floodlights, colour LED lights, LED strip lights, LED rice lights and appliqué lamp shades. The BDA has identified 10 priority stretches for the project, including Mahatma Gandhi Marg and Madhusudan Marg, among others.“In recent years, Bhubaneswar earned a reputation for having the capability of hosting mega events. Tourists and visitors are attracted to the city during events, and there is a need to showcase the city beautifully,” Sukant Mohapatra, a Shakti Vihar resident, said.
