BDA plans mega community market in Ghatikia | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: To add more quality infrastructure for people, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has proposed a plan to develop a mega community market-cum-residential complex in Ghatikia. To be developed over 2.79 acres, the mega community market will have adequate circulation passage, staircase, storage, toilets, and others. It will have three floors.
The market will be fully air-conditioned and will have separate sections for non-vegetarian and vegetarian items. The urban body plans to replicate the market model of Gajwel in Telangana. “The site has been finalised, and a tender floated for the mega community market project. We have decided to develop the market in public-private-partnership mode. The tender is likely to be finalised by the end of April,” said vice-chairman (BDA) N. Thirumala Naik.
BDA plans to have at least 220 shops in the market, each measuring at least 150 sq metres of internal area. The height of the ceiling will allow natural light to enter the market area. There will be dedicated and separate entrances for the community market and residential facilities. “The entrance and exit should be designed in a manner that there is no conflict between the two facilities,” the tender document specified.
The market requirements also specify that there will be dedicated parking areas of at least 60% of the total built-up area of the community market for customers visiting the facility. The parking facility will be nearest to the market, preferably on the first basement level.
Ghatikia, where the community market is planned, is a fast-growing residential area of the city. Once on the outskirts, Ghatikia has become part of the city with its growing residential and institutional facilities.
“There are a number of residential projects coming up in our area. There is enough vacant land in our area, which is attracting real estate firms to establish their projects here. Such market and other community facilities are needed now,” said Suramya Patra, a resident of Ghatikia.
