BDA completes girder installation at Hebbal 2 days ahead of schedule | Bengaluru News

Bengaluru: Bangalore Development Authority(BDA), often at the receiving end of citizens’ ire over inordinate delays in project implementation, has achieved quite a task, and that too while the city is being pounded by heavy pre-monsoon showers. The civic and infra agency has completed the installation of girders over the railway track at the congestedHebbal flyover junction — two days ahead of deadline. In the early hours of Monday, all seven girders were successfully positioned. With this, traffic police have been told to ease traffic restrictions on Hebbal flyover. Around 45 workers, working from 1 am to 4 am daily, and seven cranes were deployed for the project. The installed girders are meant to facilitate the construction of a four-lane roadway above the railway track across 33.5 metres, which is part of an additional ramp being built from the Baptist Hospital side to the Tree Park at the junction.Speaking about the project, a BDA official said: “Given the continuous rain over the past two days, it was quite a challenge. Each girder weighs around 30 tonnes, and the entire process — right from transporting those to the site to their positionning — came with its own set of difficulties.”He further said: “Our first priority was to ensure there was no waterlogging in the area, so that the cranes didn’t get stuck. During the work, traffic was restricted on Hebbal flyover as a safety measure.”The official said they had four days to carry out the work, but managed to finish it in two.Integration of KR Pura loop shortlyA source said either by the end of next month or the first week of July, integration of the under-construction ramp (from the Baptist Hospital side) with the half-demolished KR Pura loop will be completed.A span will link the under-construction ramp with the loop, benefiting motorists coming from the Nagawara side and towards Mekhri Circle, using the new ramp.Integration of the under-construction ramp with the Tumakuru Road loop (near Tree Park) will be taken up at a later stage.
