Bhubaneswar: Bargarh MP Pradip Purohit on Thursday urged the Centre to declare Gandhamardan hills as a national asset. Purohit made the proposal during the ongoing winter session of Lok Sabha.
Purohit mentioned that Gandhamardan hills, stretching over 97 km in western Odisha, are home to two major rivers, numerous waterfalls, and a rich repository of rare medicinal plants.
Additionally, two major tourist destinations and temples, such as Nrusinghanath and Harishankar, are located in the foothills in Bargarh and Balangir districts, respectively.
“Various govts in the past had attempted mining in Gandhamardan. In this context, I want to draw the central govt’s attention to declare the Gandhamardan hills as a national asset. Nrusinghanath and Harishankar should also be recognised as national tourist sites,” Purohit urged. TNN
