NEW DELHI: The Bengaluru Rural Police have filed two separate FIRs against the warden and the owner of a private rehabilitation centre after videos of an inmate being assaulted and another clip showing a man cutting a cake with a dagger surfaced on social media.
The incidents were reported within the jurisdiction of Nelamangala Rural Police Station.
Superintendent of police CK Baba confirmed that a suo motu case had been registered following the viral video.
“We have arrested the concerned individual. The incident took place at a private rehabilitation centre. There are set practices, but there could be some mishaps. We are checking all the visuals, and we’ll see what the main reason for the incident was,” SP Baba told ANI.
According to police, one of the videos showed an inmate being physically assaulted after allegedly refusing to wash the warden’s clothes and clean the premises. Another video showed one of the accused cutting a birthday cake with a dagger.

The police have registered one case under assault-related provisions and another under the Arms Act. Both the warden and the owner of the facility have been named in the FIRs.
Authorities confirmed that the victim has recovered and has since been discharged from the rehabilitation centre. CCTV footage is currently being reviewed to determine further culpability.
