Hyderabad: Union minister of state for home affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, opposed the inclusion of Muslims in the Backward Classes (BC) list, declaring that such a move would not be tolerated. He warned of a potential backlash from the Hindu community if Muslims were added to the BC category.
Sanjay on Thursday emphasised that the introduction of Muslims into the BC list would undermine the rightful reservations allocated to existing BCs. His remarks were in response to the Congress govt’s decision to introduce a bill in the assembly, which seeks to secure 42% reservations for BCs and send it to the Centre for parliamentary approval.
Reaffirming the BJP’s firm stance against reservations based on religion, Sanjay criticised the Congress for pushing this agenda, calling it a misguided attempt.
He predicted that the Congress party would face political consequences in the upcoming MLC elections if it proceeded with this decision.
