Balasore admn plans evacuation of 3,200 from 6 villages ahead of missile test at Chandipur | Bhubaneswar News

Balasore: The district administration, on the advice of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has made elaborate arrangements to temporarily evacuate approximately 3,200 residents from six villages within a 2.5 km radius of Launch Complex-III (LC-III) ahead of a scheduled missile test at Chandipur’s Integrated Test Range (ITR) as a safety precaution. The test is planned on March 26 from the LC-III launch pad.
Ahead of the evacuation, a joint meeting was held on Tuesday between DRDO authorities, district administration and police officers to ensure smooth management of temporarily displaced residents.
The administration has established three temporary shelters to accommodate displaced residents, with over 100 govt personnel deployed to manage the relocation process smoothly.
Affected villagers from Jayadevkasba Pahi, Sahajanagar Pahi, Bhimpur Pahi, Tundra Pahi, Khadupahi and Kusumuli will be housed in multi-purpose cyclone shelters with full provisions. Authorities have been conducting door-to-door announcements for the last two days, instructing residents to move to shelters by 6 am on the test day. The ITR authorities will provide meals at the shelters, while compensation amounts will be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ accounts by 11 am on the day of evacuation.
While ensuring the missile test proceeds without any hindrance, the administration has emphasized minimizing public inconvenience. District collector Suryavanshi Mayur Vikash said, “Public safety is our top priority during this missile test. We have made comprehensive arrangements, including temporary shelters, food and timely compensation to ensure minimal disruption to residents. I appeal to all affected communities to cooperate with the administration so that this critical test can be conducted smoothly while keeping everyone safe,” Vikash added.
