Attack on temple priest at Malad; suspect on run | Mumbai News – Times of India
MUMBAI: An elderly temple priest was knifed at Malad East early on Tuesday. Police said the priest, Madhav Acharya, was performing a ‘havan‘ when he was stabbed in the shoulder with a knife. The suspect fled thereafter. Acharya was rushed to a hospital and is being treated.
Police said the suspect is in his late twenties and was hired six months ago to milk cows at the temple.However, he was suspected to be involved in some illegalities and was sacked.
Around 4.30 am on Tuesday, Acharya was knifed. The suspect was captured on cameras running away. Police suspect the crime was committed to avenge the sacking.
The priest’s health is stable. The Kurar police have registered a case of attempted murder. Police have formed multiple teams to track down the suspect.
