Patna: Bhojpur police on Saturday arrested Abhay Yadav, the main accused in the gang of youths involved in attacking a police team on Thursday. They also recovered a service pistol that had been snatched from a constable.
So far, nine people, including four history-sheeters, have been arrested in connection with the case.
“The Bhojpur police will recommend a speedy trial of the arrested criminals to ensure strict punishment for attacking a police team and snatching the service pistol of a cross-mobile police personnel,” said Jagdishpur SDPO Rajiv Chandra Singh at a press conference on Saturday.
Giving details of the incident, the SDPO said on Thursday, around 7 pm, a three-member cross-mobile police team from the Jagdishpur police station launched a vehicle-checking drive. “They seized two bikes belonging to Abhay Yadav and Matendra Kumar as they did not have number plates. To forcibly get the bikes released, both called over 12 anti-social elements from a nearby hotel,” he said.
Upon their arrival, the group attacked the police team. “They not only injured constable Harendra Kumar but also snatched his service pistol and two cellphones, which have been recovered,” he added.
The SDPO said, “Among the arrested persons, four are history-sheeters, while the others are their accomplices. An FIR has been lodged with the Jagdishpur police station against 14 people. While nine have been arrested so far, raids are ongoing to apprehend the other accused.”
