Assistant Engineer Arrested for Disproportionate Assets in Koraput | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: State vigilance on Wednesday arrested Biswanath Patro, assistant executive engineer (AEE) of Jeypore block and in-charge municipal engineer of Jeypore Municipality in the district, for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets.
The arrest followed extensive simultaneous searches conducted on Tuesday at six locations linked to Patro. SP (vigilance) Pradyumna Kumar Dwivedi, said Patro is accused of amassing 130% more wealth than his known sources of income. The cumulative value of his DA is estimated at Rs 2.39 crore.
“As Patro failed to provide a satisfactory answer regarding the source of income, he was arrested,” the SP said.
Officials said during the searches, a triple-storey building in Jeypore town worth around Rs 1.55 crore, a double-storey building in Belaguntha, Ganjam, spanning 3,400 square feet, 18 plots of land, including six in prime Bhubaneswar locations, one in Jeypore town, one in Berhampur, and 10 in Jagannathprasad, Ganjam were unearthed.
Also, bank and insurance deposits totalling Rs 1.01 crore, 854 grams of gold, and 1.8 kg of silver ornaments were found. Cash, two two-wheelers, and household articles valued at around Rs 7.7 lakh were also discovered.
“Our team is working with technical experts to measure and appraise the properties. As Patro’s wife is also a govt employee, her income will be segregated in the investigation,” Dwivedi added.
