Patna: The RJD on Tuesday vowed to form the next govt in Bihar by securing over 200 seats in the 2025 assembly elections as part of the Grand Alliance. The party held a meeting here for about three hours to discuss plans for the assembly elections next year. The meeting was chaired by leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and attended by a majority of the party’s MPs, MLAs, district presidents and former candidates.
The meeting assumed importance as Tejashwi, who was on his ‘Karyakarta Darshan Sah Samwad Karyakram’ yatra, unexpectedly arrived in Patna to review the party’s ongoing membership drive. Speaking about the party’s future, Tejashwi said, “We resolve to win over 200 seats in the 2025 assembly elections. Abki baar 200 ke paar.” RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav echoed Tejashwi’s tine.
A senior party neta present at the meeting said Tejashwi also raised concerns about the state of the nation. He spoke about the “increasing attacks on the Constitution, constitutional bodies” and the “growing threat to secularism”. “Given the prevailing situation, the role of parties whose policies are centered around social justice, secularism and the ideologies of Babasaheb Ambedkar becomes even more significant,” Tejashwi told the attendees.
One of the major objectives set by Tejashwi during the meeting was to increase the party’s membership to one crore within the next three to four months. In the three months since the membership drive commenced on September 19, 40 lakh new members had already joined, Tejashwi was informed. He urged party leaders and workers to visit every household, informing the public about the achievements of the 17-month-old Grand Alliance govt and outlining what the RJD plans to offer if it forms the next government after the 2025 elections.
Tejashwi also raised concerns about the party’s inability to convert large crowds at rallies into votes, particularly in the minority-dominated Seemanchal and Kosi regions.
While discussing the future strategy, Tejashwi said, “We discussed strengthening the party base, preparing for the next elections and enrolling more party members.”
