ASI proposes inclusion of state’s Buddhist sites in Unesco list | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has submitted a proposal to include Odisha’s Buddhist sites — Lalitgiri, Udayagiri and Ratnagiri — in Unesco’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites. The sites date back to the 3rd century BC and fulfil the criteria required for the recognition, archaeologists said. “These sites fulfil the criteria for inclusion. Once included in the tentative list, there will be development of the sites with stronger conservation measures and a scientific approach,” said Dibishada B Garnayak, superintending archaeologist of ASI (Puri circle).
