Art exhibitions to mark ninthanniv of Bihar Museum today

Patna: As the Bihar Museum marks its ninth foundation day on Wednesday, August 7, a series of events are planned, including the inauguration of a monthlong painting and embroidery exhibition by renowned artists, focusing on the life of Sita (also known as Vaidehi). A new contemporary art gallery featuring works by internationally acclaimed national artists will also open.
Ashok Kumar Sinha, additional director of Bihar Museum, said 30 award-winning artists from across the state, including five Padma Shri recipients, have been creating their pieces since July 31.“The exhibition of their paintings and embroidery art will be inaugurated on Wednesday and will be available for public viewing until the end of August. Each artist has depicted a particular aspect of Vaidehi Sita’s life,” he said.
Artists aged between 25 and 85, specialising in various art forms such as Mithila and Tikuli paintings, Applique work, Sujini embroidery and Manjusha art, have portrayed different incidents from Sita’s life. “A similar exhibition is also planned in Mahubani district, although the date has not been decided yet,” Sinha added.
The new Contemporary Art Gallery, which will be inaugurated on the same day, will feature paintings by 35 internationally renowned national artists. “This addition to the museum will showcase a diverse range of contemporary art,” Sinha said.
Another exhibition, highlighting Mithila paintings created with natural colours, will also be displayed. “The aim of the workshop and exhibition is to encourage painters to revert to using natural colors instead of artificial hues for traditional Mithila paintings,” Sinha said.
