Armed robbers loot cash, jewellery worth lakhs from home | Bhubaneswar News

Rourkela: Five masked men decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth lakhs from a residence in Kansabahal in Sundargarh district on Tuesday, holding a woman and her teenage son hostage.
The incident occurred around 5 pm when the woman’s husband, Raghunath Nayak, was at work. The robbers, arriving on two motorcycles, forced their way into the house when Nayak’s 14-year-old son opened the door. Three suspects entered while two stood guard outside.
The assailants allegedly assaulted the boy and held his mother, Subhadra Nayak, at gunpoint before locking them in a room. They then proceeded to steal Rs 1.10 lakh in cash, which was kept for Subhadra’s upcoming surgery, along with 100 grams of gold jewellery. The robbers also took the boy’s mobile phone before fleeing.
Neighbors rescued the woman and her son after hearing their cries for help. Rajgangpur police later recovered the stolen mobile phone from an inebriated man who had found it on the road.
A formal complaint was lodged at Rajgangpur police station on Tuesday night.
“We have registered a case and our efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspects,” said M R Pradhan, inspector in-charge, Rajgangpur police station. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
