Thane: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Thane awarded compensation of nearly Rs 1.4 crore to a 51-year-old sales manager who lost his left arm in a 2019 luxury bus accident. The tribunal held an insurance company liable to pay, while allowing them to recover the amount from the bus owner.
The incident took place on Dec 16, 2019, at 1.30 am near Savarne Village on Kalyan-Nagar highway. The bus driver allegedly lost control due to excessive speed, causing the manager to lose his left arm which had to be amputated later.
The sales manager had sought compensation based on his monthly income of Rs 3.6 lakh. The bus owner and insurance company, however, contested the claim.
The tribunal established driver negligence as the cause of the accident. “From the evidence … it is apparent that the accident was caused because of the negligence of the driver,” stated the tribunal in its order. TNN
