Arif Mohammed Khan sworn in as Bihar governor, succeeds Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar | – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Arif Mohammed Khan took oath as the Governor of Bihar on Thursday in a formal ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Patna.
The ceremony was attended by chief minister Nitish Kumar, senior officials, and other dignitaries.
Khan, who previously served as the Governor of Kerala, succeeds Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who has now been appointed as the Governor of Kerala.
Before assuming office, Khan paid tribute to the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, at his memorial in Patna.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the swearing-in, Khan expressed his gratitude and said, “Today, I’ll take the oath. These are the people whose blessings are needed.” His remarks reflected his acknowledgment of the responsibility bestowed upon him as the constitutional head of Bihar.
The transition of governors marks a significant reshuffle announced by the President’s Secretariat in December.
The reshuffle also included the appointment of General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh as Governor of Mizoram, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati as Governor of Odisha, and Ajay Kumar Bhalla as Governor of Manipur. Arlekar, who served as Bihar’s Governor, will now take over the Kerala gubernatorial office.
Nitish Kumar, who had earlier met both the outgoing Governor and his successor during a courtesy visit on December 31, highlighted the cordial exchange at Raj Bhavan. The Chief Minister’s interactions underscored the smooth transition of leadership.
Union minister of State Nityanand Rai lauded Khan’s appointment, calling it a significant choice for the state. “Arif Sahab is highly educated, empathetic towards the poor and underprivileged, and deeply respects the Constitution. Bihar has gained an excellent Governor, just as the previous Governor was commendable,” Rai remarked.
The changes in gubernatorial positions will formally take effect as the respective appointees assume their offices.
