Keonjhar: Police in Keonjhar district have arrested a second suspect in connection with a case where over Rs 1 crore was allegedly swindled from job aspirants promising positions in the health department.
The accused, identified as Bhubana Mohanta (29) from Kasira village, was apprehended following the arrest of his accomplice, Pramila Parida, on Jan 26. Police have recovered 15 ATM cards, two mobile phones and fake job offer letters allegedly issued to 114 candidates.
Officer of Town police station, Srikant Sahu, said Mohanta will be taken into custody for further interrogation to identify more suspects and determine the exact amount collected from victims.
The duo allegedly targeted job seekers not only from Keonjhar but also from neighbouring districts, promising positions such as clerks and computer operators at the district headquarters hospital. The scam came to light after 10 victims filed complaints at two police stations in Keonjhar district.
“We are conducting a detailed investigation into the fraud, and all those involved will face arrest,” said Keonjhar SP Nitin Kusalkar..
