Chennai: The sole suspect in the Dec 23, 2024 Anna University campus rape case, Gnanasekaran, has been involved in at least seven burglary cases in Pallikaranai and nearby areas, said police.
“During our inquiry, he gave details of the burglary cases reported from 2019 to 2024. We will formally arrest Gnanasekaran in all these cases after collecting details as per the pending FIR,” an officer told TOI.
A magistrate court granted three-day custody of Gnanasekaran to the Pallikaranai police on Friday. Gnanasekaran will be produced before the magistrate court on Sunday to be sent back to jail under judicial custody.
Police said he might have stolen more than 200 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth nearly 1.2 crore. Gnanasekaran told the investigating officers that he targeted independent houses and villas in Pallikaranai. He also told police that he had spent the booty lavishly on expensive goods and women.
