Anna University case verdict: Chennai court finds Gnanasekaran guilty in 11 offences including rape; sentencing on June 2
A Gnanasekaran has been convicted on 11 charges, including rape, by the Chennai Mahila Court in the Anna University case. The survivor reported that Gnanasekaran threatened her and subsequently raped her on the university campus, recording the act on his mobile phone.

CHENNAI: The Chennai Mahila Court on Wednesday declared A Gnanasekaran, the sole accused in the Anna University rape case, guilty of 11 charges, including rape. Mahila Court Judge M Rajalakshmi said that the details of the sentence will be pronounced on June 2.The issue pertains to a complaint lodged by the survivor at the Kotturpuram All Women Police Station (AWPS), alleging that Gnanasekaran threatened her when she was with a male friend on the university campus and then raped her. According to the prosecution, Gnanasekaran recorded the act on his mobile phone.The Madras high court constituted an all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. In the last week of February, the SIT filed a charge sheet before the jurisdictional magistrate. Later, the case was transferred to the Mahila Court, which framed charges against Gnanasekaran under sections 329 (criminal trespass), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 87 (abduction of a woman), 127(2), 75(2) read with 75(i), (ii), (iii), 76, 64(1) (rape), 351(3), 238(b) of BNS and BNSS, Section 66 of the IT Act, and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
