HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh upa lokayukta, Justice P Rajani, has approved monetary compensation for residents of Chilakaladona village in Kurnool district, nearly 11 years after a complaint was first filed regarding submerged agricultural lands due to the Guru Raghavendra reservoir project. The original complaint was lodged by farmer Raghava Reddy, who sought redress for crop damage caused by the submergence of farmlands. Farmers had demanded 20,000 per acre as compensation. However, following a detailed review by the district collector and the water resources department, a revised compensation of 25,296 each was approved for 53 identified beneficiaries. The complainant, Raghava Reddy, was awarded 8,013. So far, 26 of the 53 beneficiaries have received the compensation. Justice Rajani has directed authorities to ensure that the remaining disbursements are completed at the earliest.
