Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta ensures ex-gratia for lightning strike victim’s family | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayukta came to the aid of a woman who lost her husband and two daughters in a lightning strike, ensuring she received the eligible ex-gratia from the government.
The institution was handling a complaint from M. Varalakshmi of Thippireddypalle Village in Chittoor District. Despite being eligible for ex-gratia relief under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), bureaucratic delays had prevented her from receiving the compensation.
Following her complaint, the Lokayukta instructed the concerned authorities and district officials to expedite the process, leading to the release of Rs 12 lakh (Rs 4 lakh per person) as ex-gratia payment.
“This case exemplifies how the Lokayukta serves as an effective bridge between citizens and the government, ensuring transparent and fair governance,” said Upa-Lokayukta P. Rajani.
She added that the institution remains a crucial mechanism for addressing public grievances and holding public authorities accountable, thereby strengthening democratic processes in Andhra Pradesh.
