Amaravati a dream come true, will transform AP: PM

Vijayawada: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday said he sees Amaravati, a pet project of CM N Chandrababu Naidu, as a dream coming true for a new Andhra Pradesh. After relaunching the Amravati capital project, the PM said, “Amaravati is not just a city, it is a force, it is the strength that will transform Andhra Pradesh into a modern state.”
Drawing a parallel with the capital of Lord Indra’s kingdom, which was also called Amaravati, Modi emphasised that this was not a mere coincidence but a positive sign for the creation of ‘Swarna Andhra’.
Modi also laid foundation stones and inaugurated various development works worth Rs 58,000 crore and said these projects were not just concrete structures but the strong foundation of Andhra Pradesh’s aspirations and India’s vision for development.
Hailing the late N T Rama Rao, the founder of TDP, Modi said the former CM envisioned a developed Andhra Pradesh. “We should make NTR’s vision a reality, and we only should make it happen,” he said, referring to the unity of NDA partners.
He lauded Naidu’s acumen for envisioning future tech on a large scale and implementing it swiftly and recalled that when he became the Gujarat CM for the first time, he used to observe how the TDP chief was developing information technology in Hyderabad and even used to send officials to get information. “I learnt a lot from Naidu and implemented those learnings across the nation,” he said.
Modi said Amaravati will emerge as a leader in information technology, artificial intelligence, green energy, clean industry, education, and healthcare, adding that Centre is extending full support to the state in developing infrastructure in these sectors at a rapid pace.
Highlighting the improved connectivity in Andhra Pradesh through highway and railway projects in the last 10 years, PM pointed out that between 2009 and 2014, the combined railway budget for Andhra and Telangana was less than ₹900 crore, whereas today the coastal state alone has a railway budget exceeding ₹9,000 crore, marking more than tenfold increase.
The PM also laid the foundation stone for a missile testing range at Nagayalanka, which would become India’s second missile test centre after Chandipur in Odisha. Developed by DRDO, it would come up at a cost of Rs 1,460 crore and would comprise a launch centre, technical instrumentation facilities, indigenous radars, telemetry and electro-optical systems to further enhance the country’s defence preparedness.
“Navdurga testing range at Nagayalanka will strengthen the country’s defence power just like Maa Durga,” the PM said.
Noting that ISRO’s space research centre in Sriharikota has made all Indians proud with numerous space mission launches over the past few decades, he said the new missile testing range centre will similarly empower India’s defence sector.
The new missile centre will specialise in testing advanced surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) and anti-tank missiles.
