Agnipath scheme a threat to national security | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Saturday said the Centre should roll back the Agnipath scheme as it was flawed even from the point of view of national security. “The Agnipath scheme compromises national security, and it does not give full employment to even successful Army aspirants. It has been our party’s stand, and we have been demanding its rollback right from the launch of the scheme,” Bhattacharya said while talking to mediapersons here.
Bhattacharya appealed to CM Nitish Kumar, whose party JD(U) is an NDA partner, to continue to stick to his party’s “agenda” regarding the demand for special category status for Bihar and the holding of the caste-based census across the country.
Bhattacharya said the outcome of the 2024 general elections was against the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. “The 2024 mandate aligns with the principles of the Constitution and democracy and supports policies that prioritize the well-being of the people,” he said.
The CPI(ML) contested three Lok Sabha seats, in which its two candidates, Rajaram Singh from the Karakat seat and Sudama Prasad from the Ara seat, won for the first time, while Sandeep Saurabh lost the Nalanda seat he contested. In 2024, the party also retained the Agiaon assembly seat, where its candidate Shiv Prakash Ranjan won the by-election.
Dipankar said the BJP, which has emerged as the largest party, is forming its govt with the support of its NDA allies as it did not get the majority, unlike in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. However, he said the INDIA bloc was both united and committed to upholding the people’s mandate.
He pointed out that the opposition bloc had expected to win at least 20 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, even as only 10 seats came into their kitty. Similarly, the NDA’s hope to win all 40 seats in Bihar was dashed, while in Uttar Pradesh, the NDA came crashing down. “Uttar Pradesh gave a big jolt to them, and also to their claim to cross 400 seats,” he added.
Calling the exit poll results as abetting the share market scam, Bhattacharya said even PM Modi and Shah, in an interview with a news channel, had appealed to people to purchase shares.
“As the Lok Sabha results started coming out, the share market crashed, and small investors lost Rs 30 lakh crore,” he said.
He demanded a probe into the share market “scam” by a joint parliamentary committee (JPC), which has also been requested by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Bhattacharya also said, “The BJP-led Central govt must consider our demand of inclusion of Bhojpuri in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.”
