After big cut in Haj quota, tour operators seek priority in 2026

Mumbai: After a cut of nearly 80% (42,000) in their quota of 52,500 pilgrims, Indian Haj Group Organisers (HGOs) or Private Tour Operators (PTOs) have urged the ministry of minority affairs to issue a clear assurance that the Haj pilgrims who booked through the PTOs but cannot go for Haj this year will be given priority for Haj 2026.The PTOs have also appealed to the ministry to clarify that the money the pilgrims deposited with the PTOs, which was subsequently transferred to the Nusuk wallet, is lying safe and will be utilised for the next Haj or, if the HGOs want to recall, can be made available for withdrawal. Nusuk is a platform provided by the Saudi ministry of Haj and Umrah that offers pilgrims various services, and the 26 HGOs from across the country deposited around Rs 1,500 crore in the Nusuk wallet before the Saudi govt cut the Indian Haj quota.Out of India’s Haj quota of 1.75 lakh pilgrims, 52,500 were scheduled to go through PTOs but now only 10,000 will go, The rest will use the services of theHaj Committee of India, Imran Alvi, general secretary of All India Haj Umrah Tour Organisers’ Association, said .
