Bengaluru: Chief of naval staff (CNS) admiral DK Tripathi emphasised on Wednesday that achieving complete self-reliance in India’s naval forces will require collective support from both govt and private sectors.
Speaking at Aero India after his presentation on “Transition to Atma Nirbhar Indian Naval Aviation 2047,” admiral Tripathi highlighted the crucial role of defense PSUs, MSMEs, and startups in realising the force’s vision of self-reliance by 2047.
“We are determined and on the path to achieve this vision,” the Navy chief stated, noting significant opportunities for industries to develop indigenous solutions in the maritime air domain.
The event marked the inaugural unveiling of “Atmanirbhar Indian Naval Aviation Technology Roadmap – 2047.” Admiral Tripathi used the platform to showcase navy’s requirements to industry partners.
Highlighting the significance of recent global conflicts, CNS emphasised how these events underscore the importance of a robust domestic defence industry. “The govt and navy have established a roadmap to encourage domestic companies to capitalise on these opportunities,” he said.
The navy chief stressed the importance of understanding the unique challenges of naval aviation, calling for reduced time frames in design, development and deployment. He outlined how aerial platforms serve multiple roles beyond traditional ISR and precision strikes, including communication relay and jamming capabilities.
“We view the industry as partners, not just vendors,” admiral Tripathi said, pledging full support to new partners in their efforts to deliver innovative technologies to the naval air arm.
Asked about the potential induction of the naval version of Rafale, particularly in light of the Prime Minister’s France visit, the CNS refused to comment.
