Hyderabad: Advocates bar associations across the state have approached the Telangana high court, challenging the state bar council’s regulation and interference in the bar association election process.
Despite each bar association having its own bye-laws and being registered under the Societies Registration Act, the Bar Council of Telangana imposed model bye-laws on all 110 bar associations in the state. The associations claimed that their proposal to extend the term of the executive body from one year to two years was rejected by the bar council.
Additionally, the bar council issued a memo directing all associations to complete the election process by March 31, further fuelling the dispute.
In response, around 25 bar associations, led by the bar association of Rangareddy district court, filed petitions in the high court. Justice B Vijaysen Reddy heard the petitions on Friday and posted the matter for Feb 25, directing the Bar Council of Telangana to file a counter in the case.
