Adani Group Unveils Ambitious Economic Corridor Plan to Supercharge Odisha’s Industrial Hub |
Bhubaneswar: Adani Group has proposed the development of an economic corridor in Gopalpur Port-Rayagada-Koraput-Jeypore region.
In a letter to the chief minister Mohan Majhi, the group’s MD, Karan Adani, stated, “I convey my interest in the ongoing discussions regarding the development of an economic corridor connecting Gopalpur Port to Jeypore via Rayagada under the PM Gati Shakti scheme. The proposed economic corridor is crucial for bolstering industrial connectivity and ensuring seamless movement of goods and services across the region,”
He mentioned that this economic corridor will reduce travel time significantly from 9 hours to just 3.5 hours between Gopalpur and Jeypore, allowing rapid transport of cargo and fostering industrial growth.
“This development would benefit industries in Koraput, Rayagada, Nabrangpur, Malkangiri, and other southern and western districts of Odisha. It would also enhance access to healthcare and education for local communities and support the overall economic landscape of the state,” the letter mentioned.
He further stated that given the strategic importance of this connectivity, it is requested that this project should be planned as an economic corridor with road, rail, pipelines, and utilities.
“The right of way of the economic corridor may be of such width that it can accommodate road, rail, pipelines, and utilities. The land acquisition for the ROW may be undertaken in one instalment and should have a width of 200 metres,” the letter proposed.
Confirming that the Adani Group submitted a proposal, industry secretary Hemant Sharma said the govt has not taken any decision yet. “The govt has been trying to rope in suitable private players to provide connectivity to the Rayagada-Koraput region so that this bauxite, alumina, and limestone-rich belt depends on Gopalpur Port and not Visakhapatnam. The same will bring economic prosperity to the region,” Sharma said.
