Actor duped of Rs 4.2 lakh by TV show casting producer

MUMBAI: An actor has registered a police complaint against two men for cheating him of Rs 4.26 lakh under the pretext of casting him in a TV show. Versova Police registered an FIR on Friday.
Nishant Kumar Singh, 29, the complainant, told the police that he had joined several WhatsApp groups for obtaining information on auditions for roles. He found a phone number of a “casting producer,” A Kapoor, on one of the WhatsApp groups and dialled him.The two discussed about work.
On May 28, Singh sent an audition video to Kapoor on his WhatsApp number. The next day, Kapoor called him back and claimed that he had been selected for a part on the TV show, “Dil Ko Tumse Pyaar Hua.”
He also asked Singh to pay registration fees following which a two-year-long contract and a cheque would be given. Singh sent a sum of Rs 25000 to one Sneha Sharma whose QR code was shared by Kapoor.
Thereafter, Kapoor kept demanding money from Singh under various pretexts. For instance, Singh was asked to pay up for costumes. Whenever Singh asked about the role, he was given evasive responses. Singh paid Kapoor Rs 4.26 lakh totally over a period of two months.
When he did not land the role, he realised that he had been duped and approached the Versova police with a complaint.
Versova Police have slapped charges against two unknown persons and are trying to track them down.
