Activist’s effort in vain: 30-yr-old peepal tree felled | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: A Malad-based social activist and tree lover, Dr Nandini Kulkarni, struggled to save a 30-year-old peepal tree at a redevelopment site near the Malad Link Road since 2021. However, the tree was fully chopped, and only now the civic authority has asked the police to inquire.
“Since 2021, as redevelopment started taking place here, some branches and roots of this peepal tree were exposed. I reported my concern to the P/North ward office of BMC. However, this tree is now fully cut from the base,” said Dr Kulkarni.
She added, “Only now, the gardens dept official of the ward office has emailed me that they have asked Bangur Nagar police station to look into this tree matter.”
