Abu Salem: After 25 years in prison 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Abu Salem moves HC for remission | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI: Gangster Abu Salem moved the Bombay high court seeking remission of his sentence and early release from prison. Salem was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
A bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and S M Modak, before whom Salem’s advocate Farhana Shah mentioned the matter, posted the hearing on March 10.
According to Salem’s petition, as of Dec 24, 2024, he completed 25 years in prison as per the terms of an extradition treaty signed between India and Portugal.
He made the claim for release by adding his sentences in two phases: 11 years, 9 months, and 26 days as an undertrial, and 9 years, 10 months, and 4 days as a convict. He also added 3 years and 16 days of jail remission for good behaviour.
Salem’s petition in the HC comes on the heels of a previous rejection of his plea for release by a special court under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act.
