A day later, several areas in Cuttack still waterlogged, traffic comes to standstill | Bhubaneswar News

Cuttack: Several low-lying areas in Cuttack were flooded on Wednesday following heavy rainfall the day before.
Major localities like Friends colony, Gahmandia, Kesharpur, Saanta Sahi and Badambadi remained submerged and residents were stranded in knee-deep water for over 17 hours.
“We are trapped inside our homes since Tuesday evening. Despite the rain stopping, the water refuses to recede,” said Laju Pani, a resident of Friends colony, which lies adjacent to a newly constructed box drain. Pani alleged that multiple calls to the civic body’s helpline went unanswered, with no water pumps installed in the area.
The crisis has severely impacted healthcare services, with over 20 private diagnostic centres and hospitals becoming inaccessible. Dr Subrat Behera, an ENT specialist in the area, said, “The parking area is completely submerged in filthy water. Hospital staff cannot reach the premises, forcing us to cancel multiple appointments.”
In Gahmandia, commuters struggled through waterlogged streets as traffic came to a halt. “The entire stretch looks like a drain now. Our vehicles are stuck and the stench is unbearable,” said Priyanka Sahu, a resident.
The situation was particularly dire in Saanta Sahi, where residents reported water entering their homes. “My bed and pillow are soaked. I’ve been sitting upright all night with no place to lie down. It’s like living in a swamp,” said Ashok Patnaik, a resident.
Responding to the crisis, commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation, Anam Patra, said, “We have installed 180 water pumps. The situation worsened because the main drain in Chhatra Bazaar is almost closed due to the ongoing box drain construction.”
He assured that additional pumps would be installed in affected areas, promising swift resolution.
