Motorists told to stop feeding monkeys on NH

Koraput: In a bid to check incidents of monkeys disrupting vehicle movement along NH-326 near Patraput and Jeypore ghat, the Jeypore forest range has launched efforts to send the animals back to the forest.
The forest department has decided to install instruction boards at spots where monkeys wait for food near Patraput and Jeypore ghat road. These boards will inform the people on how to interact with monkeys and inform them about potential legal action for feeding the animals, officials said.
Forest officials have observed the monkeys found near the Patraput bridge and Jeypore ghat road have become dependent on food being handed out by people, which diminishes their ability to forage in the wild.
“We have noticed monkeys waiting on the roadsides, expecting people to stop and offer them food,” said Sachidananda Parida, forest range officer, Jeypore.
