Pregnant Woman Scammed of ₹20,000 by Cyber Criminal in Rourkela | Bhubaneswar News
Rourkela: A 25-year-old pregnant woman of Rajamunda village in Sundargarh district lodged a complaint with Lahunipada police station on Saturday after being duped of Rs 20,000 on Friday.
Malati Kisan was targeted by a caller impersonating as a health department worker from Delhi. The fraudster first contacted Sarathi Kishan, an anganwadi worker, claiming he intended to provide aid to Malati under state govt’s Mamata scheme for pregnant and lactating women.Malati was then brought on a conference call with Sarathi and the fraudster. He then muted Sarathi and told Malati that Rs 6,000 would be transferred to her account. Malati was instructed to open a link and provide an OTP. She complied with the instructions three times, only find out that Rs 20,000 was debited from her account.
Sub-inspector P Behera said, “Based on the FIR, we have registered a case.”
