Scrub Typhus: Over 200 Cases Of Scrub Typhus Confirmed In Sambalpur | Bhubaneswar News
Sambalpur: Amid growing concern, districts in western Odisha, including Sambalpur, are witnessing a sudden surge in scrub typhus cases following a sharp rise in Bargarh. The disease, which is transmitted through bites from infected mites, has led to a steady stream of patients reporting to VIMSAR.
According to the CDMOof Sambalpur, Sujata Rani Mishra, 219 people have tested positive between April and Sept 18 across CHCss, PHCs (PHCs), and the headquarters hospital.This surge has prompted VIMSAR to enhance its diagnostic and treatment protocols .
VIMSAR superintendent Lalmohan Naik reported, “The number of positive cases was between 30 and 40 before July. However the positive cases spiked after July. Nobody has lost life in VIMSAR due to scrub typhus this year.”
Dr Shankar Ramchandani, nodal officer for scrub typhus at VIMSAR, said, “Currently, nine patients are admitted to the hospital for scrub typhus from different districts. Their condition is stable, and we are closely monitoring their recovery.” In Bargarh, four deaths have been reported, with 10 patients currently hospitalized and around 20 suspected cases pending confirmation.
