CM takes aerial view of flood-hit areas

Koraput: An aerial survey of flood-hit areas in Malkangiri district was conducted on Thursday by chief minister Mohan Majhi who also reviewed the post-flood situation with senior state and district officials during a day-long visit.
The CM emphasized the urgency of relief efforts, instructing the district administration to submit a damage assessment report within a week to expedite compensation payments for flood victims.
Majhi further said that partially damaged houses would be repaired on a priority basis and power supply restored in the affected areas.
In a high-level review meeting, attended by revenue minister Suresh Pujari, chief secretary Manoj Ahuja, Malkangiri collector Ashish Ishwar Patil and other senior officials, the CM directed the administration to ensure that no flood-affected individual is deprived of govt assistance. “The administration has been urged to provide adequate safe drinking water in flood-hit areas to prevent any outbreak of water-borne diseases,” the CM added.
Malkangiri experienced widespread flooding on Monday and Tuesday, triggered by incessant rain due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
Odisha will receive another spell of heavy rain as a low pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours. It may cause widespread rain till Sept 16, according to an IMD forecast.
