Bhubaneswar: In a boost to the semiconductor industry, the ground-breaking ceremony for India’s first silicon carbide manufacturing facility was held in the city on Friday.
The facility, to be built at an investment of Rs 620 crore over three years, is set to generate over 500 jobs and signifies a vital step in Odisha’s entry into the power electronics industry, a statement from the CMO read.
The facility is being set up by RIR Power Electronics Ltd at EMC Park in Infovalley here. RIR’s products are sold internationally for use in sectors such as railways, defence, power, transportation, aerospace and sustainable energy. Once ready, the facility is expected to contribute to India’s mission of becoming a hub of semiconductor production.
Attending the ground-breaking event, chief minister Mohan Majhi said it is another step in the ongoing journey to make Odisha a leading semiconductor hub in India.
“This new facility will not only create state-of-the-art products, but also open up a wealth of opportunities for our talented youth, providing them with avenues to work on cutting-edge technology right here in Odisha,” Majhi said.
The CMO statement further read that the state has received several investment proposals in semiconductor and related fields for establishment of new facilities. “RIR is also in the process of tying up with IIT Bhubaneswar for technical and research collaboration,” it stated.
