High-rises told to set up polling stations

Bhubaneswar: High-rise apartments and housing societies in the state are going to set up new polling stations within their premises where people can go and enrol themselves as new voters while existing ones can correct their voter cards if required.
A request in this regard was placed by the Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA) to realtors associations, asking them to sensitise the allottees associations to set up such stations at high rises with over 800 units for people’s benefit.
“The Election Commission has desired that new polling stations may be set up in high-rise apartments or group housing societies that have common facilitation areas or community halls on the ground floor within their premises,” ORERA secretary Bijay Kumar Prusty said.
Prusty, in the letter to the realtors association, further said that these societies can market this as a unique amenity such as separate polling booth for residents. Prusty’s wrote the letter following a direction received in this regard from the chief electoral officer of Odisha.
The EC usually undertakes the annual summary revision for final publication of the electoral roll four times a year.
