Over 2L govt posts vacant; 12,525 in police: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Of the 5.96 lakh govt positions in Odisha, 2.05 lakh posts are vacant, as disclosed by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi in a written response to the state assembly on Monday.. Among the vacancies are 12,525 positions in police force against the sanctioned strength of 70,937. BJP, in its manifesto, pledged to fill up all vacancies, with 65,000 within two years.
In response to a query posed by MLA Ganeswar Behera regarding vacant posts in govt departments, Majhi revealed that the highest number of vacancies, amounting to 1,04,042, exists in the Group C category.
Furthermore, 44,886 posts remain unoccupied in Group-B, 37,001 in Group-D, and 19,299 in Group-A categories. Vacancies are in almost all 42 govt departments, according to the CM.
Concurrently, in the police, Majhi, answering MLA Tankadhar Tripathy’s question, stated that 58,412 personnel are currently employed in various capacities while 12,525 posts are lying vacant in different stations.
“As of Aug 1, 2024, 70,937 positions have been sanctioned, ranging from constable to director general, in the state police. Out of it, 12,525 are vacant,” the CM’s response reads.
Among other prominent departments, the school and mass education department has 63,465 vacant posts, with the highest number of 37,680 in the Group-C category followed by 18,947 in the Group B category and 6,823 in Group-D category.
Similarly, the higher education department has a total of 3,761 vacancies, with the highest number of 1,222 in the Group-A category. In Group-C, there are a total of 1,096 vacant posts, in Group-D, 832 posts and in Group-B, 611 posts are lying vacant.
Health and family welfare department has 39,127 unfilled positions, with the highest numbers being 12,306 in Group-A and 18,183 in the Group-C category. “According to data available with the finance department, as of Dec 31, 2023, 5,96,647 posts are sanctioned across various departments of the state govt,” the reply states.
