Rape: Man sentenced to life for raping 6-year-old girl |
Kendrapada: The additional district and sessions judge (Pocso), Jagatsinghpur, on Saturday sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl last year.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict, Sania alias Anjan Behera. If he defaults, his sentence will be increased by another six months. He was convicted under sections 376 AB (rape) and 323 (causing hurt) of the IPC and Section 6 of the Pocso Act, 2012.Judge Haraprasad Patnaik also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the survivor.
According to the FIR filed by the mother of the girl on Jan 30, 2023, Anjan lured her daughter with a chocolate and raped her on Jan 29. Anjan threatened to kill the child if she told anyone about the incident. He also beat her and dragged her through the ground, causing injuries to her shoulders, face and back, among others. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Anjan. “A total of 29 witnesses, including the survivor, deposed before the court,” said Siba Prasad Majhi, special public prosecutor.
