2 murders in a mth raise safety concerns

Bhubaneswar: The brutal murder of a man in Raghunathpur under Khandagiri police station limits on Wednesday night has raised serious concerns about the safety of citizens in the city.
This is the second such incident reported here within a month. On Aug 8, two youths were stabbed to death over a trivial car parking dispute at Kalayani Plaza near Hitech Apartment under Airfield police station limits.

The latest incident involved a 17-year-old youth beheading a 32-year-old man, identified as Jaga Mallick.
Despite the police claiming to have the situation under control and arresting the accused within a short span of time, many residents feel that Bhubaneswar is no longer a safe city.
Patia resident Vikash Mohapatra said, “The law and order situation has degraded in the city now. Bhubaneswar is known to be a peaceful city, a tag no longer suitable after the two gruesome incidents.”
Acharya Vihar resident Bhagwan Das pointed out that despite the state capital being covered under a comprehensive CCTV surveillance system, goons are not afraid of committing such crimes.
DCP Prateek Singh had then said that the situation is under control and they have apprehended the accused in a short span.
Inspector in-charge of Khandagiri police station, Avinash Das, said that they have arrested the accused in the Raghunathpur murder case within 24 hours of the incident.

The girl, admitted for gallbladder surgery, reported inappropriate conduct during a post-surgery checkup. The police registered an FIR based on her mother’s complaint and are conducting an investigation. Further action will follow the probes outcome.
